How to Multiplayer

Post by Marcusaralius76 »

I've played Paraworld online via gameranger a few times now, and I've been trying to get CEP to run multiplayer against an online opponent. Me and Finn B have put up a vid of our online play in Multiplayer, but he wants to play as SEAS and I want to destroy him as he plays as SEAS, and neither of us have been able to get Direct IP to work. Are there any special tips to try? because I've followed most of the suggestions I could find here, and we both still get "failed connection" messages.

CEP multiplayer works just like the normal Multiplayer. But both of you need to have the same version of CEP installed and of course both of you need to start CEP for this.

http://para-welt.com/cep/ this is the official CEP site with the newest version always available.

You're probably not the only one playing :P But great to see people still do!

Also, it might be a good idea to check if Tarna has a freezing spear on level 1 (who really freezes, not just plays some freezing animation). If not, there's something messed up with the server side scripts option.

We've both checked versions before, and we both have the same mods and packs installed.

And what do you mean by 'normal multiplayer?' in the first game, we had to use gameranger. So should we use the online connection or host Direct iP?

You can only use Direct IP if the host has the ports forwarded. You can do this in your router. PW needs these ports

TCP 28910
UDP 27900
UDP 27901
UDP 29910
UDP 45000
UDP 45010
UDP 56000-65000
TCP 1177
TCP 1905

although I think only some of them are really important, the others are just for GameSpy, which has closed the service for PW a long time ago anyways.

The easiest option would probably to use a service like Tunngle since it will fake a LAN, no port forwards needed, or just 1. I don't know, maybe Gameranger does the same. Btw, your EXTERNAL IP is this one: http://api.champany.de/j/?ip
Often there's just the local ip (192.168....) shown ingame which is of course useless for online gaming.

Can you play CEP with Gameranger? Or does Gameranger just start PW by itself? Then you probably cannot play with Boosterpack MP and of course not with CEP as well. But playing with direct IP connect and open ports should always work.

To make sure you're currently running the same mods, check the line at the right bottom in the options menu.

Finally, if you attempt to use the Internet Server Browser, PWServer.exe crashes. Don't do it, it doesn't work anymore.

We both have the exact same version, (we checked the info offered by the options menu), we tried every Port on the list, and we used the external IP. Still no connection. I just started downloading tunngle, so we'll see if that works.

Also, there was a button on the CEP opener that said "Start Dedicated Server." Could I use that?

A dedicated server is a server for PW who has no players on its machine. If you have a third computer you could start a dedicated server there, but you cannot run a dedicated server and a normal game at the same time on the same machine.

In Tunngle you should - in theory - be able to see each others games in the LAN Server List.

Which Windows do you use? You have the Paraworld DVD version? Have you installed the boosterpack?
