Map "Crimson Tides"

Post by PhelX »

Greetings guys :D

BOOSTERPACK NEEDED !!

Here another map I just finished after a lot of work ... saying that the creation of a proper northland map is a huge pain in the butt is a massive understatement

anyways
due to this, I might have been a little bit unconcentrated when creating some parts of the map so there MIGHT be some "bugs" like dark grass near cliffs or parts of rocks floating some inches above the ground - just tell me and I'll fix it immediately

However have fun :D

Hi,
map looks nice!
Some things I noticed:

- There seem to be only 2 harbor locations, both are at the same side of the map. The other players can't go fishing (but cannot be attacked by landing troops as well...)
- There are some passable areas amidst impassable areas. Some of them at the shoreline, others in cliffs and mountains.
- There may be little space for ships on some sides, did not test that.

Keep up the amazing work! :D

Well, the differences between the starting locations are supposed to be that way, if you look for symmetry in any way or an equal amount of building space or defensability (is that a word ?) I am not your man.
IMO that's the point of a strategy game, being able to work with what you have got and still win ... the supposedly impassable areas will be fixed, but actually i have no idea where they are found .... could you tell me, i hope they are not countless :|

Anyway thanks for the input to both of you :D

Hi,

i agree with you, that is the point of strategy games! I don't like symmetrical maps that much.
However, not having a shore in the vicinity makes the fishing spots there a bit pointless, just a though.

To View Impassable areas in the level editor, press V (or B). Both actually do the same thing, but if you press both, you need to press both again to toggle it off.

Most things I do are just for the visual effect, I like water with fish in it, and I like it even more if they remain untouched xD

Well, if thats the case I will get to it ASAP, thanks :D

you can have the fish unuseable if you tick selectable and hittable off in their Properties window

new version online,
passable areas were not edited, it would destroy the look with the same texture all over the shoreline for example

Just add to the map description what you designed a map for if it is less conservative like having one side with a fishing area and the other with more fruits etc. Things like this could be quite interesting to play. I still miss a cool siege map, with one player defending a resource-rich plateu while the other player tries to bring that base down. Add interesting paths to get around the base, maybe add a bridge from the plateau to a second one or an island.
