Getting Mods Supported by GameRanger?

Post by Marcusaralius76 »

Paraworld is currently Supported by Gameranger, which makes it incredibly easy to play with others, but CEP and Mirage are currently not supported, so you'd need to use other services or direct connections.

I did a bit of research on this, and it looks like GameRanger needs the permission and help of the developer to get a game on their service. I'm not sure what kinds of permissions they need, but would it be possible for you guys to act as the Devs and get the mods supported as expansions on that service?

As long as it's just the mod developers permission they need and not a permission from Ubisoft, sure. Who do we need to contact to grant our permission?

I believe you would need to send them an email asking them to add CEP and Mirage as expansion packs, explain that you're one of the developers of the expansions, and ask them what they'll need to add them.

alright, I asked them.
Hi,
the game Paraworld is currently supported by Gameranger, but our two custom mods, CEP and Mirage, are not supported. A fellow member of our modding community told us that you at GameRanger might require a permission to get a game's mods on your service. I'm not sure whose permission you need (since we are a fan base with a bunch of coding skills and not the owners of the game itself, that would be Ubisoft) - however, we alone did create the ParaWorld mods "CEP" and "Mirage" along with a bunch of other mods.
So if it is only our permission you need to get those mods supported on Gameranger, you hereby have it. If the issue is more complex and there is more to be talked about, feel free to contact me or our chief modder Henry at *e-mail*.
Thank you for your time and attention, and we hope to hear from you soon.
Best regards,
Scrat
let's wait for their reply

I used the contact script on their website. Do you have the personal email address of someone with the power to decide?

The problem is not in kinda that they don’t have rights. The problem is kinda in CEP Boosterpack and Mirage structure itself. Gameranger runs game after creating a room through the .exe file of the game. And since boosterpack, as well as CEP as well as Mirsge don’t have it, gameranger runs only original game. So the only one way here, is reconstruct this mods, so they will be replacing original files in base folder, or.....make a new .exe for MiRage and boosterpack if it’s possible

I think gameranger just sets up a tunnel connection (to the games it looks like the other person is connecting from localhost or the LAN, and to the other person it looks like the server is running on localhost or the LAN), so it should work with any game I guess.

It doesnt support command line options and also has embedded .exe path and name so you cant use -enable mod and cant even choose a fake .exe that does it
It also intercepts mouse control to automatically enter the lobby
