I find out from Mirage's readme that

Gamespy shut down server for pw (if players click on Join tab at internet games, the server.exe always crashes, even with boosterpack) -> join tab is removed as well as gamespy logo

so questions are
to play in multi now:
1. host can still make server in internet games and rest of players join by "direct IP"?
2. host should only host by using "direct ip" and rest of players join by "direct IP" ?
3. Using softwares like hamachi is not necessary to play ?

yes, we can now play only as we used to do a few years ago, there is no need to play through other software

Only 2. works, host a TCP/IP game and share your internet ip

so, some players - like me - can still host at internet games menu, but others can only join by direct IP, but if a player could only host by direct ip in the past, then he shouldn't try to host via internet

anyways, we talked about it with Anakey, and maybe we should simply remove internet games menu at all (till a miracle happens)

In my case the game crashes after I hosted a game, someone joins and we start the game. Or if I leave a game I hosted without starting it

Better use Tunngle instead of Hamachi ^^

But you usually don't need VPN programms at all. Just go into your router (192.168.0.1 or sth like that) and forward the needed ports to your LAN-IP. You can then find out your external IP at sites like http://www.whatismyip.com and give it to other players.

Don't forget that players have to run identical version of game and adding new lines in settings.cfg cause problems in multiplayer like manually editing to enable mirage long time ago;)

Cheats, 1000k and of course server side scripts will only work if the others have those settings the same way you have them.
