Hi there, need help with Paraworld on Vista desktop PC. Every time I run PW I get the Microsoft Windows message box saying: Paraworld launcher has stopped working.....close program.

My system is: Dell Dimension DIME521
AMD 64 x 2 dual core processor 4200+ 2.2GHz
32 bit operating system
Vista Home Premium SP1

It was working about 7 months ago, but all of a sudden, decided not to.

Thanks

Did you install any new programs on your PC before the problem started?

Have you tried playing again?

This sometimes happens to me, and later it works.

But yes, have you downloaded anything?

Thanks for your prompt response. Yes, I'm a serial downloader & installer of programs. I actually uninstalled it after reading post from Scrat, & tried to reinstall & installing program into c:/PW instead of the Program Files... but I when I initially uninstalled it I still kept the saved games & profiles.

I have also tried using the compatibility for older programs, but hence didn't work.

Even when I do reinstall, how come it doesn't ask me for key code?

I appreciate any help as my son loves this game.

Thank you

The code probably doesn't appear because it's downloaded, (you downloaded the game correct?). I'm not sure if I can help you, but I'm pretty sure Scrat and Triceratops can help.

Thank you....in view of my installation of programs, I have gone through & uninstalled many that I have recently installed. I just also updated Nvidia driver which I think the update came out Jan 9th 2009. I have also attached event log viewer screen shot of the error for PW...

Kind Regards

Did you update any virus scanners? Maybe they take Paraworld.exe for a virus.

You know Scrat, funny you should say that.... its possible. But also what I'm going to do, is since my PC is in desperate need of house keeping, I'm going to a hard reset format, & make it squeaky clean again. I've been wanting to do a hard reset for a while now.... I'll do this consuming task within the week, & then have another go at reinstalling the game. My son will just have to make do with the old XP laptop we have.

Hey thanks again, for prompt assistance,
Jamie

Jamie, I came back today so my aoplogize for this maybe too late answer

Re-install the copy protection driver and you should be fine. Turn off all anti virus and firewall applications that could damage the process

Hi Triceratops, sorry for the late reply...I had a few issues re: even my Anti virus, plus a couple of other programs that I couldn't un-install.

Anyway, YAHOO, did a hard reset...so now its squeaky clean, runnin mean!

Will attempt to install PW in a day or too, & yes, I will disable anti-virus etc etc....let you know how it goes.

Jamie

Bad news

I have the same problem. When I launch ParaWorld, I get the Windows message: "Paraworld Launcer has stopped working".
When I use my Vista laptop, it works fine.

Stationary PC (Purchased 1 year ago)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 650 @ 3.20Ghz (4CPUs), ~3.2Ghz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
DirectX-version: DirectX 11
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon HD 5850

* I have tried turning my firewall + AntiVirus (AVG) off
* I have tried reinstalling ParaWorld twice
* I have tried launcing directly from my CD and from a shortcut on my desktop
* I am 99.9 % sure that I have not installed any untrusted programs which may cause this error

Any other suggestions?

It seems PW can't be launched on Win7, except for some people.

Sorry :(

You are wrong, it does work with windows7 just that you have to manually play with some files to make it work on the x64 as paraworld was made long before 64 bit os really took off. The problem is that the game installed a 32 bit version of the copy protection software. The 32 bit needs uninstalling and the x64 bit needs installing after. Also check to see you have the x64 bit edition of DirectX as the dvd will install the 32 but version only.

Baden27, download it here: http://www.tagesprotection.com

We are pretty sure it does not help, Paraworld does not work well with Windows7
